Dear IST Community,

Rather than take up space in Mr. Sakhri’s and Mrs. Aussprung’s Notices and Announcements, I thought it might be better to publish here once per week. My goal with this is to update parents on weekly happenings at the school and also highlight different topics weekly.

As you can see from the pictures below, work has finally started outside! The rain has finally slowed down a bit and this week and next they will be working on redoing the underground plumbing lines. Check back next week for more info on the build!

Our fifth graders were able to go on our first “covid safe” field trip since the beginning of 2020 to the Flandrau Planetarium at the University of Arizona. They had a special exhibit on Insects that tied in with what the children have been learning in class in addition to their rocks and minerals and other scientific displays/activities.

Student council also held their elections this week! The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects.  In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body.  They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community. Students gave speeches on Wednesday at lunch time and the whole JS/MS voted in the last period on Wednesday. We are excited to announce the following winners:

President: Alejandra Marble
Vice President: Lachlan Schreiber
Secretary: Scout Noli
Treasurer: Veronica Vazquez
Class Representatives: Miles Albert, Felica Anderson, Reya Harrison, Alexandra Palma, & Oliver Vazquez

Expos will come back this year as well! For those that don’t know, Expos are an opportunity for students to showcase what they have been learning in school. They are primarily in their non-English language and generally include speeches, presentations, performances and musical displays.  As we are still in the middle of a pandemic the school has made the decision to adapt our Expo for the safety of our community. Please see Mrs. Aussprung and Mr. Sakhri’s emails for more information on the upcoming events and formats.

“Palma’s Post-It” will be updated weekly on the website and a link will always be available in the newsletters.
Thank you for your constant support of the school, our staff, and our students.
