School is in full swing and there’s lots going on in the next few weeks. I’m really looking forward to “Hello Week” (Sept 19-, the upcoming Expos (Sept. 22 & 30), and our Chinese Mid-Autumn celebration (Sept. 29). Please see the “Notices and Announcements” emails for more details on these.

Last week, some of our middle school Home Economics students went to a local Safeway for a field trip. They were each given $30 to purchase ingredients to make an entire meal at home that evening for their families. This field trip examined and reinforced the concepts they are currently learning in class- budgeting, financing, inflation and food planning. They made some good choices, learned a lot, and had fun!

*New this year, lower middle school students have the choice of 2 elective classes per year and upper middle school students have the choice of 3 per year. Some examples of middle school electives for this academic year are: leadership, choir, physics, coding, yoga, engineering, and soccer/volleyball. These courses have been a great addition to our curriculum, giving the students a chance to expand their knowledge in areas that interest them.*

In other IST news, Student Council held their elections this week! It was super fun and the speeches were well thought out! It took a lot of courage for these students to get on stage in front of the entire Junior and Middle School. Congratulations to all who ran for positions and the winners!
